Eaton Corporation Manager, Enterprise Embedded Systems - Engineering Quality in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Eaton’s global engineering team is seeking a Manager, Enterprise Embedded Systems – Engineering Quality to support the enterprise’s Engineering Centers of Excellence (CoEs). We at Eaton are innovating future products with a focus on global sustainability megatrends: Energy Transition, Electrification, and Digital Enablement. This position will focus on ensuring quality across the company’s portfolio of products with embedded systems. The preferred locations for this position are Southfield, MI, Galesburg, MI, Grand Rapids, MI, or Marshall, MI. Travel is expected to be up to 25%, including international travel. Relocation assistance is available.

In this role, you will provide leadership to all business sectors within Eaton Corporation (Aerospace, Mobility and Electrical) to assure flawless launch and maintenance of new products within the intelligent product portfolio. This includes standard process and work definition for embedded systems, electronics and software engineering domains. You will be taking on an expanded role that has traditionally supported our highly regulated Industrial sector and will also partner with Electrical Sector engineering leadership to drive high quality and reliable embedded product releases.

You will lead and manage a team that will provide independent assurance that engineering projects are executed according to standard process definition and that non-compliances are being closed in a timely manner. You will also need to gain the trust and confidence of division leadership in order to influence to achieved desired results. You will be responsible for keeping up with current embedded systems development methodologies, tools and practices, processes and capable to transfer best practices across projects and businesses. Ideally, you will be detailed-oriented and passionate about making a difference within the embedded systems space.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and deploy standardized new product development processes with the emphasis on flawless launches for all of Eaton Business Sector’s intelligent and connected product offerings.

• Assure compliance of processes to industry recognized quality systems including AS-9100, ISO-9001and TS-16949. Align quality assurance and development processes for applicable Sectors within Eaton to achieve acknowledgment of process maturity according to process frameworks such as CMMi & Automotive SPICE and certifications when applicable for functional safety and cyber security.

• Support business level Quality Management System audits like AS-9100 on-behalf of engineering.

• Provide and drive tactical and strategical Quality Assurance and certification roadmap direction to engineering teams in line with organizational objectives and industry recognized standards.

• Build sector wide relationships with the business leaders for intelligent product quality support.

• Lead and develop the global team to assure the organization has access to top talent in this space.

• Accountable for Aerospace (ARP4754, DO330, DO331, DO178C and DO254), Automotive (ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434 and ASPICE), and Electrical (IEC 61508) project quality deliverables.

• Research and deploy the most contemporary software quality assurance practices to assure that Eaton maintains state-of-the-art capabilities in this evolving space as we continue to add intelligence into our portfolio.

• Monitor and identify quality defect trends at the project and organization level, lead root cause and permanent corrective action to address defect trends.

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and strategies for Enterprise COEs as it relates to Embedded systems and software.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline (e.g., STEM).

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience with a focus on software development and software quality assurance.

• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.

• Experience in deployment and external certification processes for software quality assurance systems, such as the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) process & ISO/IEC 15504 (Automotive Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination/ASPICE).

• working knowledge in achieving the quality objectives defined in industry standards related to cybersecurity and functional safety and/or process reference models such as CMMi or ASPICE.

• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) All applicants Must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), have been granted Political Asylum, or Refugee.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferred

• Experience in Project Management, Lean, Six Sigma (DFSS Black Belt).

• At least Six Sigma Green Belt certified, with a preference for Black Belt level

• Knowledge of common requirements management and software configuration tools like (Jazz DOORs NextGen, RTC, JIRA, Bitbucket, Github etc.)

• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)

• ASPICE Provisional Assessor

Skills:

• Quality System Knowledge (e.g. AS9100, ISO 9001, TS16949)

• Subject matter expert in software development processes.

• Experience supporting teams with hand code development processes, object-oriented code development processes and model-based development processes

• Experience in deploying and utilizing model, software, processor and hardware in the loop (XiL) software test systems.

• Possess the ability to resolve issues on all levels. Must proactively recognize and solve complex cross-functional program issues.

• Experience in systems engineering discipline and requirements decomposition for application to software development, verification and validation.

• Strong communication skills to all levels of the organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain technical concepts.

• Position requires interaction with customers, customer representatives, auditors, regulatory agencies and all internal departments/functions/levels.

• Must be able to navigate in a highly cross-functional matrix environment. Influencing skills are critical.
